If you have a concern about a member of staff working with children (in either a paid or voluntary capacity) please contact the Local Area Designated Officer (LADO) on:

About the LADO

All organisations that provide services for children, or provide staff or volunteers to work with or care for children, should have in place clear policies for dealing with allegations against people who work with children, consistent with Working Together 2015 and Berkshire Local Safeguarding Children Boards Child Protection Procedures.

An allegation may relate to a person who works with children who has:

  • behaved in a way that has harmed a child, or may have harmed a child;
  • possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child; or
  • behaved towards a child or children in a way that indicates they may pose a risk of harm to children.

Local authorities are also required under Working Together 2015 to have designated a particular officer, or team of officers (either as part of multi-agency arrangements or otherwise), to be involved in the management and oversight of allegations against people that work with children. This officer is referred to as the Local Authority Designated Officer or LADO. Information on how to contact the Reading LADO, and the process with regards to allegations, can be found on the right.

Further information about the allegations management process and the roles and responsibilities of agencies can be accessed on the Berkshire shared procedures website by clicking on this link: proceduresonline.com/berks/reading/p_alleg_against_staff.html
