It is a statutory responsibility that all staff and volunteers working with children, young people and their families should attend training in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and have regular safeguarding updates and refreshers as part of their ongoing development. Training should be available at a number of levels to address the learning needs of these staff/volunteers – this can be via single agency as part of the organisation’s own arrangements; inter agency through nationally provided courses; or those provided by Berkshire LSCBs.
This strategy has been developed in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children, 2010. Individual competencies for health staff can be found in the intercollegiate document Safeguarding Children and Young People: Roles and competencies for Health Care Staff.
